Our dental hygiene experts will leave you feeling clean, fresh and impeccable
Our dental hygienist will expertly clean your teeth, not only making them look shiny and new but offering the first line of defence against tartar build-up and infection. Plaque that remains on teeth will harden over time, can irritate the gums and can lead to problems such as gingivitis and periodontal disease. Our dental hygienists will remove this and also monitor your mouth for any signs of concern, performing x-rays, gum health and supporting bone evaluation, and offer you advice on correct tooth and gum care.
What can I expect from a hygienist appointment?
Your mouth, teeth, gums and other surrounding tissue will be assessed with the use of photographs and x-rays if necessary. Any problematic areas of your mouth will be identified, and then a thorough clean will be carried out. Your teeth will be scaled and polished, removing any tartar from above and below your gum line. Any infection that may have developed will be removed, and decay preventing agents may be applied. Your appointment could also involve having an x-ray if needed, and your gum health and supporting bone will be evaluated.
How often do I need to have my teeth cleaned?
This depends on how carefully you take care of your teeth. Brushing and flossing, avoiding sugary foods and drinks, not smoking – these practices will all contribute to a cleaner mouth, so it may not be as important. We understand it can be difficult to stick to a regime like this every single day, so we recommend coming in for a clean at least once every six months.
