Dental crowns crafted and fitted with the highest level of care
A dental crown is custom-made to fit over a damaged natural tooth. If your tooth is beyond repair and has lost a large amount of structural integrity, a crown may be necessary to restore its strength and function.

What is a crown?
A dental crown slots over the existing tooth or remaining tooth structure like a cap. They can be made of porcelain, which is much stronger than composite filling materials and we will match it to the colour and translucency of the rest of your teeth perfectly. We also offer crowns made of zirconia, which is stronger yet again. Zirconia is the hardest known ceramic in industry, and crowns made with this material are the strongest in used dentistry. Their appearance however will not blend as well with other teeth, and are more suited to crowns fitted at the back of the mouth.
When do I need a dental crown?
Dental crowns have many applications and can be used to correct a number of problems:
- Severely decayed teeth
- Teeth weakened by root canal treatment
- Fractured or broken teeth
- Broken fillings
- Large, unattractive fillings
What does this treatment involve?
A dental crown can usually be placed in two or three visits. After an exam, we prepare your natural tooth to receive the restoration and then we take impressions of your teeth. The impression accurately represents the position, size, and shape of your natural teeth so that your restoration fits correctly.
We send your impressions to a special dental lab, where they are used to create your permanent restoration, which usually takes about two weeks. Before you leave our office, we fit you with a temporary crown to wear while the new one is being prepared.
Once the restoration is finished, we will schedule an appointment for you to return to our office. At that time, we check the finished restoration for proper fit, making adjustments as necessary. Finally, the restoration is cemented permanently into place.
Before you leave our office, we will give you instructions on caring for your new restoration. While fully functional, you should remember that it requires special care to prevent damage. If you practise proper oral hygiene and schedule regular dental cleanings, your new dental crown can last for many years.

FAQs About Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are durable, but not indestructible. Treating them like you treat your natural teeth is a good approach. Avoid biting into anything that is not food or not meant to be chewed. That includes hard candy, ice cubes, and even some nuts. Be cautious when biting into olives with pits and stone fruits, such as cherries. In the event that you damage your restoration, give us a call so we can address the problem!
Modern dental materials and technology have dramatically improved the appearance of dental crowns and bridges. Our dentist strive to match your dental restorations with your natural teeth, giving you a uniform smile. The porcelain used in today’s crowns and bridges can be colour-matched to blend perfectly with the shade of your natural teeth, providing protection and esthetics.
